Happy Frugal Friday you good lookin’ people! As many of you know, free is my favorite word. Today, I will be exploring the glorious wonder that is …the Public Library!! Whether you have a library as big as a courthouse (my old library) or as small as a community building (my new library), these 3 obvious reasons will make you want to dust off that library card!
What?? The library has books? You’re kidding me!!! This list is obvious for a reason, y’all! Most people only go when they want A book. Frugal people go when they want LOTS of books! I don’t think I have ever left the library with just ONE.
The library, even smaller ones, have all kind of books! Some you might think of are fiction, children’s books, and magazines.
You may not consider these:
- How-to books
- Recipe books
- Weight loss books
- Audio books
- Parenting books
- Financial Books
- DIY/Craft Books
- Relationship Books
The list goes on and on! Quick tip: Next time you see a book you want to buy online, hop over to your library’s website and see if they have it. You can pick it up or reserve it and save money in the process. Seems PRETTY silly to purchase a book about saving money, if you ask me…
Another Quick Tip: Most libraries use a free online audio book/ebook program called Overdrive. You simply go through your libraries website and find the book you want. You can then download the app to your smart phone or tablet for free. There, you load your book. If you’re a parent, these are amazing! You can read an entire book by just cleaning during nap time or commuting to work everyday. It’s fabulous! The best part is, most new/popular books are on there, so if you can’t get your hands on an actual copy, you can probably get the ebook/audio book!
Now, our old library had pretty much every DVD/Blu Ray you could think of, even new releases. Our new one may not have so many, but they do have a wide selection!
- Children’s Movies
- Educational Films
- Comedies, Romance, etc
- TV Shows
- Holiday Movies
- Foreign Films
Quick Tip: Next time you go to head to the video store, try hitting up the library first. Movie nights are great for Pre-Disney Trips, Birthday parties, family nights, and at home date nights. Save money where you can and indulge on ice cream instead =]
Now, as I said before, I have rarely left the library with only one thing. At our old public library, they literally had every CD imaginable. This meant, yes, that I would get large bags of CDs at each trip. I would never encourage anyone to get them from the library and rip them to their computer, so I’m not even going to mention it…..
ANYWAYS, not only do they have CDs, most libraries use Freegal. You can download x amounts of songs per week/day, absolutely free!!
Quick Tip: Before you go to iTunes to download that song you want, try going through your libary’s Freegal account to see if you can get it for free.
So there you have it frugal friends. 3 obvious reasons why I love the library! Free and conveniently located down the street from my house! Why do you love the library? Did you know all of the awesome free resources they have? Comment below!
